Rhokela Shaw Obituary

Rhokela Monshay Shaw was born June 22, 1980 in Sylacauga, Alabama to Jerry, Sr. and Cortrina Simmons. She was one of three children. She was married to Eric Shaw and in that union they had three beautiful children. She departed this earthly life on Thursday, April 9, 2020 at Russell Medical Center.

Rhokela was a proud graduate of Coosa Central High School, class of 1998. She attended CACC and received her Associates in Cosmetology and attended Fortis College and was certified as a Medical Assistant. She opened her own beauty salon, Changing Images, in Goodwater, Alabama and she was also the manager of two hair stores; Sally’s Hair Supply and Smarts Style of Wal-Mart. Her passion was being a manager, hair stylist, and medical assistant, which influenced her to pursue her final job. She was currently employed at Brown’s Nursing Home, doing what she loved best; styling hair and serving the elderly.

She was a faithful and dedicated member of New Home Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Christopher M. Todd. She enjoyed working with the youth at different events and helping wherever she was needed. She was a servant who truly loved the Lord and she loved to praise God.

When called home, Rhokela was preceded in death by her loving grandparents John O. & Ruby Lee Harrison and John & Lula Simmons. She was also preceded by her best friend Stormy P. Edwards. She leaves to cherish her memory:  a loving and amazing husband of 17 years Eric Shaw, three beautiful kids Jaydon Shaw, Jayleeya Shaw, and Jairric-Robert Shaw all of Rockford, Alabama. Devoted parents Jerry, Sr. and Cortrina Simmons of Goodwater, AL; in-laws Robert and Valencia Shaw of Rockford, AL. Two brothers Jerry (Lastarsha) Simmons and Janardus (Kenyatta) Simmons all of Alexander City, AL. Two nephews JaDarius & Jamir Simmons; one niece Kenley-Elizabeth Simmons; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and co-workers. She loved her family and it was evident.
