Mrs. Johnnie Mae Smith was born on October 19, 1938, to the late Mr. John and Lillie
Marbury. She was their only child. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and
joined Hollins Baptist Church where she attended for many years. She later joined
Paradise Mission Worship Center.
She departed this life on March 9, 2024, at the home of Rev. Michael and Sis Michelle
McCain in Goodwater, AL.
She married Charles “Charlie” Brown Smith on December 28, 1968.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Brown Smith, Father John
Marbury, and Mother Lillie Coppage Marbury.
She graduated from East Highland High School in 1959. She graduated from the
Barbara Durr Beauty Culture School in Birmingham, Alabama, and became a licensed
cosmetologist on May 16, 1960.
She leaves to cherish memories: two daughters, Traci (John) Kelley, and Michelle
(Reverend Michael) McCain of Goodwater, AL, a special daughter Marie (Travis)
McNeal of Hope Hull, AL, and a special son Brian (Beverly) Sims of Chelsea, Al.
She leaves four grandchildren: Tia Kelley of Goodwater, AL., Michael (Sara) McCain, Jr.
of Pflugerville, TX, Miles McCain of Goodlettsville, TN, and Jon Kelley of Emory, VA.
She leaves one great-granddaughter, Nia McCain.
She leaves five special grandchildren: Darius Todd of Hueytown, AL, Jasmine Thomas
of Birmingham, AL, Brian Sims, II, Brandon Sims, and Braxton Sims of Chelsea, AL.
She leaves three special great-grandchildren: DeJah Todd of Hueytown, AL, Jersei
Thomas, and Joshua Thomas, Jr. of Birmingham, AL
Special cousins Frank P. (Cynthia) Sims, Jr., Marcus Sims, Jeremy (Jessica) Sims, and
Brittany Sims, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
