Bernard Glenn was born on November 9, 1950, to the union of the late Annie Mae Brownfield Glenn and Hoover Glenn. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend whose life touched many with kindness, strength, and devotion.
Mr. Glenn was a graduate of Phyllis Wheatley High School, Class of 1969. They were the last graduating class before integration.
Bernard began his career working at the Shell Plant, where he demonstrated diligence and responsibility. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, showing courage, discipline, and honor. After his military service, he attended Central Alabama Community College, where he studied air-conditioning refrigeration and electrical vocational studies, furthering his skills and preparing for his future. He went on to work at Avondale Mills for over 35 years as an electrician, where he was respected for his strong work ethic and commitment to his family’s well-being.
His membership was with Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where he worshipped for many years. In recent years, he worshipped with Faith Chapel in Birmingham, Alabama, where he and his wife found faith in the word of God, living and implementing God’s word daily.
Bernard was deeply proud of the GBN family club organization, which his family started and sustained for over 40 years. Through this organization, they dedicated themselves to helping others and Bernard took great joy in seeing the positive impact it made in the lives of the families they served.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 23 years, Agnes W. Glenn; his children, Antraun Glenn, Anitra Upton (Michael), and Nechia Harvey (Martin); his treasured grandchildren, Emmanuel Lyons, Brandon Glenn, Alexxus Glenn, Joseph Capra, Mycah Glenn, Makayla Harvey, Max Upton and Mariah Harvey; and his beloved great-grandchildren, Princeton Stewart and Preston Glenn.
Bernard is also survived by his loving sisters, Shirley Nix (Edward) and Doris Hudson, along with a host of nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, extended family and friends who will forever remember his warmth and wisdom.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Annie Mae Brownfield Glenn, Hoover Glenn and his beloved sons, Rodney Latavious Bolton and Roderick Darius Bolton.
Though he departed this earthly life on December 20, 2025, Bernard’s legacy of love, resilience, service, and faith will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
